Jackpot Premiums: We will be paying out the top 5 places in each of the jackpot shows. Overall payout will be determined at the show. 2013 Payments: Champion Steer -$850; Reserve Champion Steer -$425; Jackpot Steer – 5 places paid; Champion Heifer -$1800; Reserve Champion Heifer - $500; Jackpot Heifer Show – 5 places paid.

 

Premiums: Cash Class premiums will also be awarded throughout the show.

Camping: Campers are welcome, with full utility hookups. The charge is $10 per day due in full at the gate to Fairgrounds.

 

Dining: Eastern States Exposition provides a varied, home cooked menu at the Mallary Concessions.

 

Judges:
Shawn Varner from Council Bluff, IA, has an extensive beef cattle judging background including:
• 2012 American Royal Lowline Show
• 2013 Iowa Angus Assoc. Preview Show
• 2013 No. Star Classic Jr. Show
• 2013 National Western Maine Anjou Pen Show
• 2013 American Royal Market Beef Showmanship
We are pleased to have a judge with this national experience judging The Big East's following shows: showmanship, jackpot steer and jr. heifer shows.

 

Matthew C. Claeys from West Lafayette, IN, grew up in Atkinson, Illinois and attended Black Hawk East Community College and the University of Illinois. He was a member of the judging teams at both colleges. After completing the B.S. degree at Illinois, he completed his Master’s degree at Auburn University and was the judging team coach. He served as Livestock Specialist for NC State University and worked on a PhD. After ten years at NC State. In 1998, he moved to Purdue University as the Beef Cattle Specialist and Livestock Judging Team coach. He has judged over 450 shows across the country. Matt has a remarkable background in animal growth and development, nutrition, and breeding and genetics.He has designed innovative breeding programs for successful producers in the beef industry He and his family have a small herd of Angus cattle and are active in 4-H and FFA. He has worked in the beef industry in Western Africa, South America, US and Canada.

Matt will be judging Jackpot Heifer and Youth Steer.

 

Bedding: Sawdust is provided. As a service to our exhibitors, Eastern States Exposition livestock office will be selling shavings and straw for tieouts. We encourage you to take advantage of their competitive pricing and buy supplies at the show.
